TET VACE POTLUCK AT CITY HALL
The 2020 VACE Tet Potluck at city hall was a lively and well attended event which drew city employees throughout San Jose to city hall on January 23. It was fun to see new faces and reconnect with those we had not seen in a while. City Council members Lan Diep, Chappie Jones, Maya Esparza and SJPD Patrol Chief Dave Tindall stopped by to enjoy lunch and support VACE. Captain Jason Ta sponsored lunch at Pho Passion with the VACE board raffle tickets to encourage new membership and Council Member Lan Diep generously pledged to donate $500 to assist VACE with operating costs.
VACE COMMUNITY SERVICE
In March 2020, COVID 19 changed everything and the food banks were in even greater demand. Councilmember Maya Esparza reached out to VACE for assistance with food distribution at the Vietnamese Community Center. Many non-English speaking Vietnamese of the community signed up for food donations, and VACE assisted with registration of these new applicants..
VACE TRANSLATION SUPPORT SERVICES
In October and November 2020, the hiring of the new Police Chief community outreach team at City Hall sought assistance from VACE to participate in community Zoom meetings for notetaking and be available for bilingual translation services as needed. Several community meetings were held to obtain community feedback on what are the most important issues the new Police Chief should address his/her first year on the job, what professional experience and accomplishments the new Police should bring to the position, and what skills and abilities the new police chief should have to be successful in San Jose. A handful of community members participated in the meetings and shared important feedback and insightful discussion.
